Occupational Therapy

Occupation therapy helps people do the activities that they want and need to do everyday. For children this includes tasks at school, making friends and playing, and being part of a family (following directions, getting along with siblings and self care tasks). Occupational therapy is a holistic therapy that addresses physical, sensory and emotional skills to help the whole family.

Ryan believes the natural environment can contribute to the value of therapy through increased focus, normalization of sensory responses, and the fostering of self-reliance. In our fast-paced world of technological distractions, being outdoors offers the opportunity to slow down and be present in the moment. He has seen the value of nature in himself, his children and with the clients he works with.

Ryan has learned that occupational therapy extends far beyond the typical fine motor skills or dressing skills. Ryan loves to work in groups- from boxing with Rock Steady Boxing to running groups for children with ADHD on navigating in nature.

In addition to being a certified occupational therapy assistant (COTA), Ryan is a United States Marine Corps veteran – an experience which provided him with extensive training in outdoors activities such as land navigation, survival in desert and cold-weather mountain environments, hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. He brings these skills to his OT sessions to help his clients achieve their highest potential.
